Midshipman were admitted from every state in the nation and from the District of Columbia.  The Class of 1983 also included one midshipman from each of the following countries:  Dominican Republic, Honduras, Jamaica, Peru, Venezuela, and the Philippines.

Minorities and Women

The Class of 1983 included a total of 192 minority midshipman with ethnic backgrounds as follows:  Black (80), Asian/Pacific Islanders (59), Hispanic (48), and Indian/native American (6).

Ninety women midshipman were admitted with the Class of 1983.
